There are many reasons why you should dance over the summer. It’s fun. It’s great exercise. But there are true benefits as a dancer to continuing your dance education over the summer.
1. Try New Styles
The summer is a great time to try out new dance genres. Have you been wondering if hip hop might be your thing? Summer classes and camp only require a short term commitment but you get a chance to physically try on a new dance style.
2. Get Noticed
You might not think so but your instructors pay attention to which dancers take advantage of extra classes, workshops, intensives and conventions. When they have to choose someone for a role or opportunity and want a dedicated dancer, these dancers are the first they go to.
3. Small Class Sizes
Have you been craving that extra attention in class? Does it ever feel like you aren’t receiving enough feedback? Summer classes are typically smaller than usual and you are bound to get more individualized attention.
4. Make New Friends
Because classes are smaller, sometimes different ability levels are intermixed. You might not only be challenged by this but you could also make new friends that aren’t typically in your classes.
5. Muscle Memory
An advanced dancer relies on muscle memory to execute more difficult steps. It takes thousands of repetitions to create muscle memory and so much can be lost in a few short weeks. No matter what you do over summer break – be sure to squeeze in some dance! You have worked too hard and long to let it all go.
Most importantly, dance over the summer because it’s fun!
